HSW upgrades are the closest thing GTA Online has to a cheat code for speed — they nearly double a car's acceleration and push top speeds past anything a normal Imani Tech build can touch. This guide lists every HSW-compatible vehicle, its real-world top speed, the upgrade cost, and exactly how to unlock the tuning. No filler, no guesswork.
What is HSW (Hao's Special Works)?
Hao's Special Works is a performance-tuning service run by street racer Hao at the LS Car Meet. It adds a second acceleration bar on the stat graph, meaning eligible cars get roughly double the launch power plus higher top speeds and sharper handling than standard maxed-out builds. Originally a PS5/Xbox Series X|S exclusive, HSW also came to PC via GTA V Enhanced in March 2025 — so PC players are no longer locked out. The HSW upgrade is a one-time conversion applied per vehicle; it does not change the car's purchase price.

How to unlock HSW upgrades
- Play on a supported platform. PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC via GTA V Enhanced (since March 2025). The old PS4/Xbox One and PC Legacy versions cannot access HSW.
- Buy LS Car Meet membership. Visit the LS Car Meet south of Cypress Flats and pay $50,000 to Mimi for membership. This unlocks the test track and Hao's services.
- Reach the HSW counter. Hao's Special Works is accessed from the Car Meet's modification area. Drive an eligible car in, select the HSW Performance Upgrade, and pay the conversion fee.
- Unlock the free Karin S95 (S95 method). Beat Hao's Premium Test Ride time trial in under 8:15 and you earn a trade price / free claim on the Karin S95, sidestepping the standard fee. Times are tight — practice the track first.
- Apply HSW per car. Each vehicle is converted individually. Once applied, you can still fine-tune with normal LS Customs upgrades on top.
Are HSW cars worth it?
If you race competitively or grind PvP, yes — the doubled acceleration is a genuine edge off the line and through corners, and the top HSW cars simply out-drag every non-HSW build. For casual cruising, the six-figure-plus conversion fees are hard to justify on more than one or two favorites. The smart play: HSW your single best racer (Banshee GTS or Annis 300R) and leave the rest stock.
